Gateway Plaza resident Teresa Gomez will sing a solo in Carnegie Hall at 8 p.m. on Feb. 8 as part of the first U.S. production of “Oratorio Terezin,” a musical program about children in the Holocaust.
The Young People’s Chorus of New York City will also be performing in the piece, as well as an adult and children’s choir from Montreal, an orchestra group and two other soloists.
Lyrics for the program are a combination of Hebrew Scriptures and poetry written by children while they were prisoners in the Terezin concentration camp outside of Prague. Terezin was a transit camp for Jews on their way to Auschwitz. Out of more than 15,000 children who entered Terezin, it is estimated that just over 100 survived.
“Oratorio Terezin” was written by Canadian musician Ruth Fazal. It premiered in Montreal in 2003 and has since toured throughout Europe and Israel.
