Penn South helps out Gulf states

The Penn South Co-op in Chelsea presented the American Red Cross with checks for over $23,000 from its shareholders recently for the relief efforts in the Gulf states in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Irma Loibell, president of the Penn South board of directors, said the donation was an indication of the co-op’s concern for people affected by the hurricane.

“This donation is by far the largest ever collected in the Penn South community,” she said. Lobell and Naomi Goldstein, the co-op’s education and communications director, presented the checks on Sept. 23 to Elizabeth Portland, of the Red Cross in Greater New York.
