On Sept. 1, outside the gates of the Xcel Energy Center, in St. Paul, Minn., site of the Republican National Convention, the protest group Veterans Against the War attempted to deliver a letter to presidential candidate John McCain or his staff. Above, the group’s leader, First Sergeant Wes Davey, left, tried to deliver the letter, but was turned away. In Denver, a representative of the group was allowed into the Democratic National Convention to deliver the same letter to Barack Obama’s staff.
