Meet the mother-daughter team behind John’s Pizzeria in Elmhurst

Since 1965, John’s Pizzeria has been serving up traditional pies in Elmhurst, Queens.

These days, you can still find Rose Bagali working behind the counter, making fresh pies. She started the business with her late husband John with no experience, but together they built a business that stood the test of time.

Susan, Rose’s daughter, also joined the family business and has helped to keep the tradition alive. Though the taste of their delicious pizza keeps the customers coming back, a big reason why John’s has lasted so long is because Rose and Susan treat their customers like they are part of the family.

In honor of National Pizza Day on Feb. 9, Kenny Bollwerk spoke with Rose and Susan about what makes John’s so special.
