An intersection in Chinatown was cordoned-off Tuesday morning after a traffic collision sent fuel spewing over the roadway.
According to the FDNY, two cars collided with a truck on Canal and Lafayette Streets at around 9:50 a.m. While a Ford car rear-ended the truck, leaving its hood twisted, a Toyota rammed into the same vehicle from the right side, sending fuel gushing into the street from beneath the rig.
Hazmat units were called to the scene while first responders poured sand over the road while also using pumps to suck up the liquid. Pedestrians could also be observed holding their noses in an attempt to block the stench of gasoline.
FDNY reported that EMS rushed one person to Bellevue Hospital as a result of the crash. No details regarding the extent of the injuries were provided.
After several hours of cleanup, the area was reopened at around 11:35 a.m.
